lol Mick - this thread was started last year!  No, you're right, I don't remember what you wrote before.
I think it's looking like we wont make it either.
Sorry guys - it would have been a double date for me too as I was going to meet up with family whilst down, never mind, maybe next year.  Smiley

OK, because of the Labour Party Conference being in Brighton and artificially hiking the prices of accommodation and everything else over the period we had wanted for our clan meet. How about we keep to the same date but move it along the coast by about 15 miles to Eastbourne, home of Gods waiting room, where they have some excellent facilities, a beach (for a barby), a pier, and lots of other entertainment.   Tim says he can checkout some of the accommodation such as guest houses B&B, hotels etc over this coming weekend, and it's going to be a lot cheaper than a dirty weekend in Brighton.

We also need at this time to know some numbers of those who agree with this and are definately coming, so we will know what sort of places we need to look into for meals and drinking etc etc.  So, please get your replies in ASAP.

We don't want this going tits up, we are clan with a bit of bollocks, so a little bit of hardship should be no barrier to us having a good time, so show what you're made of, and give this some support.

Especially to Tim who is willing to put in some leg work to get information.  He's a Star

It's only just over a month away now.

Please Vote in the above Poll too.

Eastbourne sounds good to me. I'm not really fussed but as Pete pointed out, finding single rooms in Brighton at the moment is rare and expensive. As long as we get a clan meet, I'm open to anywhere.

It now turns out that the weekend of the meet is the same weekend we are returning from our 2 week's hols in Devon.

So we have to be in Devon on Sunday morning to pack up our caravan and be off the campsite by 11am.

It's 5 hour drive to Eastbourne; according to google maps, so even if we came over on the Friday we would have to leave early Saturday afternoon. Cry

The original plan was for our hols to be the week before and after the meet so we could come during the middle weekend, but due to a visit from an important client, we have had to move our hols forward by one week.

So I hope everyone who does get there has a great time.

I've voted for Eastbourne... I'll be travelling on the friday.

I've looked at how to get there on the train.  It's quite a bit more complicated - either:

Newbury->Reading->London Pad->London->Vic->Eastbourne

or

Newbury->Reading->Basingstoke->Clapham Junct->Eastbourne

Both routes are about the same cost-wise and seem to take exactly the same amount of time (according to national rail website) (3h 31m)

Also, the nationalrail website mentions "Engineering work on the London Underground on Saturday 26 and Sunday 27 September" - so travelling back this way may not be ideal.

So count me in. Sorry.
