As much as you mock CNN for their attention to her (and I still wouldn't know who she was if she walked into my house), you are also posting a thread about her, hence adding yourself to the entourage of people reporting about her
Oops, Tonester, this was an easy error to make. I guess you didn't see my warning:
Please do not hold it against me that I am watching this stuff, for I have not the slightest interest in the story as such. None! Nada! What does fascinate me, however, is the fact that it has such prominence, with such focus, and with the power to replace real news for so very long.
Note how little I had to say about the story itself. The point is, in spite of the title, this is not a thread about Lindsay Lohan or her current bout with the law. Not at all! It is a thread about fatuous and empty news, where I have taken the LL story as another for-instance. I lamented about this before when the equally fatuous story about Paris Hilton and her pink jail time knocked every legitimate piece of real news off the air in so many US networks; and again when the story about the rutting satyr Tiger Woods was filling the airwaves.
Please, do not see these threads as being about LL, PH, TW or anyone else specifically. What is of interest is how these stories are poignant commentaries on the ruddy emptiness of our society and the nugatory nature of its interests. The TW story has the added element of illustrating how deeply our society has had its male values being ousted by female ones. Moreover, none of this depicts man at his most noble, I should think.
The point is that these stories are all "from the heart" in that they are truly what interest society - else CNN would not air them as prominently as they do. And forgive me, Tonester, much as I salute your pious claim about not recognizing LL, this could only mean that your head is buried in the sand!

Of course, I do not know how prevalent coverage is in England about these wayward media idols, but here you'd need to be dead to avoid knowing of them. And this is what I am commenting on.
The subjects of these news nonsense are all people without any real contribution to anything of significance. They are in the business of being celebrities!
I wonder whether I could say the same of the World Cup and its participants? I love the WC! Is this anything different?
